Monday 3:00 – 4:30 pm
The blogging and social network worlds are quickly growing in industries all over and education is no different. This session will allow attendees to learn how to safely set up an environment for both students and teachers to blog, communicate and learn. Attendees will be able see the setup and configuration of BuddyPress, hear use cases to take back to their classrooms and learn about new plugins that can really allow communities to take off.
Fellow code wrangler Stephane Daury has a quick guide on having a tumble (curation) blog at WordPress.com.
The example is I ♥ iPhone Photos.
I plan on doing something similar with some of my photos soon.
I’ll be doing much more travel this year for both work and just for fun. I figured that I need some kind of way to organize my details so I gave TripIt a spin. TripIt is a trip planner where you can store all of your hotel / flight / itinerary information.
The email integration is what makes TripIt killer. Last night I booked a hotel for the conference I’m going to at the end of the month and all I needed to do to import it into TripIt was forward an email. It detected my trip dates, hotel information, etc. You can also import past emails automatically.
TripIt also has a few mobile apps. I installed the Android version for my Droid X so now I’ll be able to stay organized while I’m out too.
On a related note: I’m speaking at eTech on January 31st about BuddyPress in education. More details soon!
